Last tastes of Summer

Lobster Fundraiser collage

Lobster Feed Fundraiser?!!?  Lobster lunch with the fixings?  And for a great deal…and it benefits some good causes?  I’M SOLD!!

This past weekend, I attended a Lobster Feed Fundraiser, which was basically a lobster grill out. They provided lemonade, lemon water, light veggie crudités, assorted yummy rolls from Iggy’s Bread (locally made in Cambridge), grilled corn on the cob, sides of cole slaw, fresh Maine lobster (they know a guy, how cool is it to know a lobster guy!), drawn butter, and blueberry pie.  And as an additional option, a beer and wine cash bar!  Not a bad set-up, right?!  And this was all for lunch in the lovely open air, dining ‘al fresco’ on a wonderfully sunny day.  It was good timing weather-wise, as the summer weather came back out to play, after days of feeling like autumn snuck in too quickly.  As you can see from the pictures, there was plenty of sun, a well rounded and satisfying meal, plus there was time to enjoy some reading in the sun while I was waiting (I arrived a little early).

The proceeds benefitted a non-profit, Haymarket People’s Fund (HPF), which provides small grants to grassroots groups all over New England, in addition to benefitting the Roxbury Environmental Empowerment Project (REEP), a project of the Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE) non-profit.  Some great folks involved in each, and great groups of people benefit from the work at both HPF and ACE.  (I know, it sounds like an alphabet soup with all the acronyms!)

A great meal, great people, and you leave with a good conscience knowing that your money also helps support good work.  Plus, I got to do a bit of networking :).  Chatted up a few people I was familiar with at the event, which continued the good vibes of the food high.

… A nice way to enjoy a September weekend with what may be the last lingering tastes of summer:  basking in the rays of sunshine, warm temperatures, outdoor dining, and fresh local seafood!
